What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy incorporates the use of nutrition, herbs and lifestyle advice to influece and change biochemical processes of the body, helping to reduce dis-ease.

Naturopathy is a non-invasive form of medicine which aims to improve health throughout all body systems, by using nutrition, herbs and lifestyle changes to affect the various system frameworks of the body.

As Naturopaths, we focus on your presenting symptoms, test results and presenting signs to allow us to understand the biochemistry and processes of your body. This allows us to improve the body’s function of these systems.
Naturopathy is a complementary therapy, with both diagnostic tools and treatment carried out.
Naturopathy uses a holistic approach, addressing the whole body. We can help with weight loss, gut disturbances, food intolerances, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune conditions, trouble sleeping, stress, anxiety and a wide range of other conditions. Naturopaths can also detect other issues, and will refer patients to other specialists when needed.

What to expect during a treatment?

During an initial consultation, your naturopath will listen, discuss your health problems in depth and take notes. Generally, this consultation will last between 60-90 mins. We ask a lot of questions! This gives us the best overall picture of your health and helps us to better understand the pathological and biochemical processes that we need to address. You will then be physically examined. We will look at your skin, nails, hair, your eyes and may also check your blood pressure, listen to your heart and check your ears. This is so your naturopath can accurately analyse any clinical signs that are present. A treatment plan will be discussed, including nutritional changes, lifestyle adjustments, herbal supplements and the number of sessions likely to be needed.
Many private health insurance policies will partially fund naturopathy for appropriate conditions.

Naturopathy Consultation

Naturopathy can benefit your overall health and well-being of your body’s systems. Our Naturopaths can also help with your nutrition, which includes advice on long term health management. Treatment is guided by your preferences. Our Naturopaths like to use nutrition and food as medicine as the first point of call. They then like to address lifestyle factors that may help your condition. Lastly, they will use herbs and supplements to help you achieve your goals. Other prevention advise can involve:

  • Stretching exercises
  • Posture
  • Breathing
  • Stress reduction
  • Exercise suggestions
  • Sleep health

If there are signs of a serious condition, such as cancer etc, our Naturopaths may refer and direct the patient towards medical and specialised treatment.

Are there any risks having a Naturopath treatment?

Our Naturopaths are fully qualified practitioners. This is REALLY important as they understand drug interactions, disease processes and contraindications. They will review all of these with your treatment plan. If you have any concerns, please do not be afraid to ask.

So what is the difference between seeing a Naturopath and self-prescribing??

It is no secret that natural medicine can add up. We try our best to keep the cost affordable.

Self-prescribing or taking advice from a person that is not qualified can be dangerous. Our training is in depth with biochemistry, pathology and science. For this reason, we harbour a good understanding of the disease processes and how to affect them. We also understand simple principles that you will not get from a person that is not qualified. For example, having coffee and caffeine with your iron supplement will inhibit the absorption of your iron supplement…. you may as well not take it. All of this information is important as part of your recovery.

If you feel that you may benefit from a naturopathic consult, or just want to talk to one of our naturopaths, please give us a buzz on 97738085. We are more than happy to help you out.
